Art Deco Lakewood Theater

The marvelous all-original deco Lakewood theater (with a stage!) in the Lakewood section of east Dallas. I love this place. I saw Bowie in The Hunger here when it first came out, oh, absolute ages ago. I've been to various shows, operattas and art events in this theater, and I reckon I'll be seeing Cyndi Lauper here in about a month. 'cause even after all these years, I just wanna have fun.

Oh, sorry starbender sweetie - I saw the film The Hunger here, not a Bowie show. It was a midnight movie, maybe 8 or nine people in the whole place.

I remember a couple of those old theaters from when I was a kid there in the late 40's. I think one was the Ewing and it was on S. Beckley just south of Saner. I think. I was 8 or 9 and got lost there. I went to Trinity Heights Elem which was on S Marsalis and I think Saner. There was another a few blocks from where we lived that I don't remember the name of in a strip center on S. Lancaster. Got to see one of Roy Rogers compatriots there one Saturday before the serials and cowboy pitcher.

I'll see if they are still there, Myron - do you have an address for your old house? I'll go look it up and post a pic for you, if you'd like. Let me know. There were some glorious old movie theaters in Oak Cliff, and several really nice ones have been torn down in just the last 15 years. Pity. I especially loved the one over on Fort Worth Avenue just East of Hampton. I'll see if I can find your old school and then I'll post it. Cheers!
