Grandpa and Grandgirl at Mama's Daughters' Diner

A man takes his grand girl to lunch.

There's nothing so great as the way a grandpa adores his grand-daughter. At lunch one day in early December, I watched from the next table over as this grandpa smiled and listened patiently as the little girl spoke animatedly, prattling on about what were no doubt very important topics. It was adorable. Sweet moments.

Beautiful indeed. She will remember those moments.

They are indeed precious moments. This is something I did not appreciate until I had the chance to see the contrast between the UK, where children are basically personas non grata in any decent restaurant and here in Spain, where kids do go out to eat with the family as a matter of course. The experience is an essential part of learning for grown up life.

These moments come and go. It is so nice to be able to look at your grandchild and realize a small part of you is moving off into a new world, a new life and a whole new adventure. That you are there to share in the moment is priceless.

A beautiful photograph that is compelling.

I just posted a story about my wife, Patty, and her last radiation treatment for breast cancer, and our walk in Nature, afterwards, and our encounter with President Bush's airplane.
