Dirt Behind the Daydream

A homeless man set up camp in the abandoned Texas Theater entryway. I almost stumbled upon him, and I tried to be quiet and not disturb him.

kris - it's been well over 90 degrees Fahrenheit in Dallas this week, so no, it is more likely he was incredibly hot than cold. We have a tremendous system of homeless services and Dallas recently approved a new multi-million dollar campus of shelter and educational/medical/job training facilities for the indigent. Although it is not a common occurrence to see homeless people sleeping in doorways, I try to give an honest picture. The truth is that homeless are everywhere, and no city is perfect.

lisi - Indeed.

sad?

how about 'get a job you dirty hippy'

I seem to have to get up every morning and go to work, and not have health insurance, and eat ramen noodles every night.

It is sad. I have seen many occupied doorsteps as I pass shops in the downtown area getting to the Central Library where we work. My husband and I saw a man sleeping in our parking garage as we came in this week.
